I recently attended The Global Leadership Summit at Willow Creek in Chicago.
One of the speakers I enjoyed most was Danny Meyer CEO of Union Square Hospitality group as he shared a few horror stories of his wait staff at his restaurants and how they overcame the mistakes that were made. He talked about 5 things to do when you make a mistake:
- Be aware that the mistake happened.
- Acknowledge that it happened
- Apologize for it
- Act on it (do something about it)
- 5. Apply additional generosity (what more can we do)
I love having a formula to refer to, typically when a mistake happens I'm either frustrated or flustered and having a formula to move from it is helpful for me. I also love item 5, adding additional generosity to the situation.
If you want to read more about him, here's a link to his book (I bought 4 copies for my team):
The other speaker I couldn't hear enough of was Rasmus Ankersen an Author and Entrepreneur who had some great quotes:
- "Success turns Luck into Genius"
- "Treat Success with the same skepticism as failure"
He also talked how you should "Never Trust Success blindly" as there may be some underlining things happening that attributed to your success that you didn't have control over or may miss identifying for future success.
Here's a link to one of his recent books:
This is one of my favorite conferences and try to attend it every year. Let me know if you'd like to join in on the discussion of “Setting the Table” that my team will be having or if you wanted to chat about any of the other speakers I heard.
All the best, Matt
